About World Liberty Financial
World Liberty Financial (WLFI) is a crypto lending platform associated with the Trump family, operating at worldlibertyfinancial.com and on X (@worldlibertyfi). Its core business is decentralized borrowing and lending, where users can supply or borrow assets such as USD1 (its own stablecoin), WLFI (governance token), ETH, cbBTC, USDC, and USDT. The platform's main narrative is bridging traditional finance with DeFi, leveraging political connections to gain visibility and trust, while aiming to make USD1 a practical, widely used stablecoin for real-world applications.
The market pain point it addresses is the lack of accessible, transparent, and politically credible DeFi lending options for both retail and institutional users. By offering a stablecoin pegged to the dollar and integrating with major assets, it seeks to reduce friction in crypto borrowing and lending.
In the past six months (2026-03-04 to 2026-09-04), WLFI launched its lending market in January 2026, with initial annualized borrowing rates around 0.83% for USD1 and supply yields near 0.08%. However, in April 2026, it faced significant controversy: on-chain data revealed that WLFI had pledged 5 billion WLFI tokens on the Dolomite protocol to borrow $75 million in stablecoins, draining the USD1 pool and preventing existing depositors from withdrawing funds. This raised concerns about circular risk, as a drop in WLFI's price could force liquidations and further depress the token. WLFI's token fell 12% to an all-time low, losing about $427 million in market cap. The platform later repaid $25 million of the loan, restoring some liquidity, but the incident highlighted conflicts of interest, as Dolomite's co-founder also served as a WLFI advisor. WLFI dismissed the criticism as FUD, but the market remained skeptical.
World Liberty Financial appointed former Coinbase executive Ryan Ballantyne as Chief Business Officer, strengthening its enterprise strategy. The platform launched its native stablecoin USD1 on the Tempo mainnet. Governance votes approved token unlock plans for early supporters and the founding team while advancing proposals to burn up to 4.52 billion WLFI tokens. The project also filed a defamation lawsuit against Sun Yuchen to protect its reputation.

Core executives: CTO Corey Caplan (@coreycaplan3), VP Marketing Shawn Chong (@shawncgeek), General Counsel Mack McCain, CBO Ryan Ballantyne.
Notable backgrounds: Chase Herro and Zak Folkman previously worked on Dough Finance; Steven Witkoff is a real estate magnate and longtime Trump friend; Eric Trump and Donald Trump Jr. are Trump's sons; Zach Witkoff is Steven's son; Corey Caplan is a blockchain developer involved in Dolomite.
World Liberty Financial has recently strengthened its leadership by appointing Ryan Ballantyne as Chief Business Officer in August 2026. Ballantyne brings over 30 years of experience in capital markets, derivatives, asset management, and digital assets, having previously led Corporate Client Strategy at Coinbase Institutional. His arrival aligns with the platform's expansion into stablecoin (USD1) adoption, DeFi products, and institutional partnerships, signaling a strategic push to bridge traditional finance with on-chain solutions.
